Being prepared....

We had President Dudley come and speak to the YSA on Tuesday night.  He talked about being prepared.  He asked them, what are you preparing for in your life?  Some said education, getting married, being a good father, jobs/employment or career, etc.

Then he had them talk about ways to prepare for those things.  Next, he asked what about being prepared for the unexpected things in your life?  How would you prepare for car accident, illness, loss of employment?  How about natural effects of weather or disaster?  How do you prepare?

His message was..."make no mistake we will all have personal trials or unplanned events that throw us off of our schedule or life plans."  We will all face trials.  In our day there are many unknowns ahead of us...how do we prepare for the unknown?  We strengthen our faith.  We need to know that the Lord will never forget us.  We need to strengthen our knowledge of the scriptures so that as trials come we will know that if we walk with the Savior everything will be alright.  If we are striving to be righteous He will bless us to get through whatever we need to experience.  We need to live our lives so that we can be guided by the Holy Ghost.

I believe that the Holy Ghost is the most amazing gift!  If we can "practice" following His guidance in our lives with the little things, then when the big things happen we will be better prepared to feel his influence guiding us through the tough times.

As I thought about the Holy Ghost in my life/our lives...I know that we have been guided in all aspects of our marriage and raising a family.  The Holy Ghost brought Dean and I together.  He helped us know where we needed to live and raise our family.  He helped us find the homes we were blessed to live in.  He helped Dean get hired as a State Farm Agent.  I know many times I was guided as a mother to teach our children correct principles.  I was tutored by the Holy Ghost when I did not know how to sew something important...the directions came into my mind and my understanding was enlightened to know what to do.  I know that when Dean rolled the car down a mountain, he was protected as if some spiritual being was holding him as the car rolled over and over.  Then there was our bad accident.  It was a Priesthood blessing and the prayers of many friends and family that helped us through.  The Holy Ghost was a very real comforter and companion at that time. I have a testimony that we had help beyond the veil when Tory was wedged under the axel of the car and Dean lifted the car as I tried to pull him out...only to have the inner tube just expand and he remained wedged under the axel.  I ran for help!  When I came out Dean had Tory laying on the snow.  I asked how?  He said, I lifted the car and reached under with my foot!  Ridiculous!  Could NOT happen! There was HELP from heaven!  I remember Tonya, laying face down in the snow, unconscious!  I rolled her over and she was lifeless!  I patted her cheeks and cried and prayed all at the same time!  I know that FAITH is more than an action word.  Faith in Jesus Christ is a power!  A mighty power beyond words.  I know when the lady with an issue of blood for ten years touched the Savior's robe, He felt the power leave him.  I have experienced that same power of Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as it blessed Tonya to be well.  Many times in my life I have seen miracles.  Our family has been blessed innumerable times by the Priesthood and the faith of those I love.  I know that what President Dudley was saying about being prepared...meant for us to become SPIRITUALLY PREPARED!  All things are possible if we are living Christ-like lives and walk with the Holy Ghost as our guide!

My desire tonight is for each of you to examine your life.  Look at what your priorities are right now.   Determine if there is room for improvement to becoming Christ-centered in your life.  Are you feeling the guidance of the Holy Ghost regularly?  You can.  And your life will be blessed!  Then you need not worry about being prepared because Heavenly Father will have you in HIS hands.
