We are starting the Gospel of John.
I learned so many cool things about John I want to share with you and keep in my Mission memories forever.
John is the Apostle that he refers to as the one "Jesus loved"...and became known as John the Beloved. It is evident that he did love the Savior and spent much time with him. His Gospel is his testimony that Jesus Christ was the Son of God and the Redeemer. It is told in a special eye witness way.
We know that John was one of the "first presidency" after Christ was resurrected. We know that Jesus invited Peter, James and John up to be with him on the mount of transfiguration. We know that John was invited to be close to the Savior in the Garden of Gethsemane. We know that many times it was Peter, James and John who were in the close conversations with the Savior as He taught.
I know that in our pre-mortal life John played an important part in preparing the Gospel on the Earth. We know that John was given a very important mission to accomplish when he came to Earth. The scriptures in the Old Testament and the Book of Momon testify of the great things John will do for the Lord.
From the Doctrine and Covenants section 7: (which was written by John the Beloved): The revelation is a translated version of the record made on parchment by John and hidden up by himself.
"1 And the Lord said unto me: John, my beloved, what desires thou? For if you shall ask what you will, it shall be granted unto you.
2 And I said unto him: Lord, give unto me power over death, that I may live and bring souls unto thee.
3 And the Lord said unto me: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, because thou desires this thou shalt tarry until I come in my glory, and shalt prophesy before nations, kindreds, tongues and people."
I suppose his work will not be finished until Christ comes again.John was asked to care for Jesus's mother as she wept at the foot of the cross. John was probably weeping himself as he loved Jesus deeply!
I loved the record of John's testimony! Read it and you will too!
