Dinner with the President

Monday was a special day because we were invited to dinner and FHE with President and Sister Schofield.  They are wonderful, loving, inspired people.  All of the Senior Missionaries were invited. We met some really great people there.  Each of us are doing different work for the Lord and it was fun to find out how many ways people can serve.  We had a delicious roast dinner with salads, corn on the cob, rolls and desserts.  It was all pot luck (assigned) except for the roast.  The office couples planned and organized it.  Then after dinner President had a get to know you time where we each told a little about ourselves and something unique.  It was a fun evening.

But, I lost my companion...again!  Yes, Elder Baxter is the best helper and volunteer you will ever meet.
We arrived at the room where the dinner would be served.  We brought a cake, the dark chocolate (to die for) cake from Costco.  So Dean walked across the room to set it on the dessert table.  I started introducing myself to the other missionaries.  When I looked up, I had lost my companion...AGAIN!  So I looked in the hallway, nope!  I continued looking around the room, he was gone!  So I slowly moved all the way around the room visiting as I went.  When I got to the other side, President said, "If you would all take a place at the tables, we will have a blessing and begin."  I did not want to sit down without Elder B. so I waited.  I actually moved over and stood behind the President who is a big man.  Thinking he won't know that I have lost my companion!   Then Elder Hansen a councilor in the Mission Presidency came over..."Where is Elder Baxter?" he whispered.  Uhhhh, "I think he may be in the little boy's room," I said.  He looked at me and said, "No, he is not there, I was just in there and was not."   Hmmmmmm.  (I wondered to myself if he was sitting in the stall, holding his little feet up so no one would find him, ha ha!)  Nearly the entire group are now seated, so I slipped out the door behind President to see who could have abducted my companion!  I walked around to the chapel, looked out the front door, then I walked downstairs to the kitchen.  NO companion!  No HUSBAND!  NO WONDERFUL DAD...anywhere!  So I picked up my phone and called him!

THIS IS THE REST OF THE STORY...
Well, when he took the cake over to the table, there was an elderly (more elderly than us) Missionary who had a tub of ice cream.  He did not know what to do with it or where to put it.  Since our chapel is rather unique...(the kitchen is down about 10 stairs and around the corner) Dean offered to take it to the freezer for him.  So off he goes.  At the bottom of the stairs is a young man sitting on the sofa.   Of course, he is greeted warmly by Elder Baxter.  Then Dean takes the ice cream to the freezer and heads back.  The young man is still sitting there so Elder B. goes over to shake his hand and find out what he is doing?  He says he is waiting for his mom because they are going to take food to a homeless shelter.  Ohhh, that piqued Elder Baxter's interest as we are always looking for service.  So he tried to find out where, what, when and how?  The boy didn't know but his mom did.  So, along comes the Mom.  She told him that she knew where she was delivering the food but the address was out in the car.  So Elder Baxter follows her out to the car to collect the information.  That is when I called!  I FOUND MY COMPANION!

He got the message clearly, to come for the blessing!  Not only is he service oriented, he is obedient!

(I am going to see if Todd can edit out the missionary in the back)

Needless to say, I kept my eye on him for the rest of the night.   It was a fabulous time!
